Short Session Description (one line): This presentation will explore the creation of digital narratives to create global understanding and community.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):  Research substantiates that learning and understanding cannot occur without establishing relationships.  Establishing relationship occurs when we begin to know and learn about ourselves and each other.  Creating our own stories and sharing those stories with others provides a catalyst for developing empathy and understanding for our triumphs and our struggles.  This presentation will explore the creation of digital narratives  by individuals, groups, and classrooms to create mutual understanding of local and global issues and solutions.  Digital narratives allow students to develop cohesion of their own perspective around an issue as well as communicate their perspectives to other students in their communities and around the globe.  

The Session Objectives include:

1. A brief introduction to the research on using narrative to develop empathy

2. A review of several tools for developing digital narratives including tools for development, sharing, and engagement.

3. Several examples of digital narratives constructed to develop community and understanding

4. A complete lesson plan for use by the attendees in their communities.
