Full Session Description (as long as you would like): The online classroom allows students from around the world to learn and work together in one location. While diversity in the classroom creates opportunities for learning and growth, ensuring equal understanding of assignments and instructions can be challenging. Voice-narrated video tutorials (Screencasts) are an effective way to explain assignment instructions or answer questions that may otherwise be confusing to students who do not speak the instructor’s language fluently. However, some Screencast programs are easier to use than others and instructors may feel it is too time consuming or difficult to plan, create, edit and post.
According to Anthony Jackson of the Center for Global Education, the United States has “challenged states and school districts to … prepare more productive teachers…” This presentation will “prepare more productive teachers” by discussing the benefits of using voice-narrated video tutorials in a culturally diverse classroom; how it has been shown to enhance learning in the classroom; and provide a variety of easy-to-use tools to create quick and simple Screencasts. In addition, attendees will learn which Screencast tool is best for them, how to create a quick and easy Screencast, and how to integrate the Screencast seamlessly into the online classroom. Attendees will be provided copies of links to the demonstration tutorials and “quick set-up checklists”.
