Short Session Description (one line): How an online course can give home educators access to our multicultural world.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Home educators don't just learn at home. Neither do students who have access to online resources. Using a particular case study, I'd like to describe how i guided home educators and schooled students to use a mass open online course (MOOC). More than just accessing the course content, these students had to navigate the intricacies of multicultural discussion boards to further their learning. 

As a teacher, home educator and researcher in flexible alternatives to brick-and-mortar learning, I find that the lessons I have learned in home educating for the last twenty years are applied in the classrooms where I teach or in online tutorials that lean on worldwide resources. I share the practices that work with teachers, students and parents who are interested in learning locally and globally.
