I teach high school English in a one-to-one school in Boston, MA, USA, and I am looking for international or rural schools to partner with between October and December 2011. My 16 students are 16 and 17 years old, but connecting with any students between the ages of 15-20 would work well for us. (I have some flexibility...so contact me even if these dates don't work for you).

My students have written "This I Believe" essays modeled after the series on National Public Radio in the United States. I'd like to pair each student with at least one other student to either:

a) write a collaborative essay entitled "This We Believe"

OR

b) create a collaborative video project entitled "This We Believe"

We would use Skype and other free online tools to make this collaboration happen. I have significant experience arranging such collaboration, so I'm happy to work with any teacher, regardless of your comfort level with technology, collaboration, or language. More important to me than past experience is finding teachers who:

  • are willing to "make the time" in our busy classroom lives to sustain the collaboration
  • are flexible in their delivery of their curriculum
  • are excited by connecting students from different cultures and places

Sincerely,

Hi David,

Great to make this contact. We are definitely interested in working with you. Would you pass my message along to any teachers in your building who would be interested?

Presently I have 18 students, but in the winter and spring terms I will have more students that I could include. Also, my trimester ends mid-November, so if this project is to get off the ground, I'll need to start soon. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers,

Robin

Robin - are you still in the collaboration game? Looking for connections. check out: swba.ca

Hi David,

I'm always interested in collaborating. Currently, I teach at the Frankfurt International School (grade 6 and grade 10). I've never gotten any takers for the video/essay idea, but I would still LOVE to make it happen. I'm also open to other ideas. Let me know?

Robin

Robin,

I currently have about 5/6 students that would be interested in collaborating on an essay or video as there classroom project. I currently run a learning skills class and the would be running the projects as part of their transition work. Many of them have been working on video projects for over a year now and their skills are very good.

Looking forward to hearing from you. We are from Cupertino high school in California.
