Co-Presenter Name(s):

Area of the World from Which You Will Present:  Johannesburg, South Africa

Language in Which You Will Present: English

Target Audience(s):  Anybody exploring education systems that are decolonising, education for social change, specifically in relation to education systems in which young people's consent and agency are non negotiable.

Short Session Description (one line): What can unschooling offer in terms of decolonising education

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):  Education, schooling and learning have become interchangeable terms that need prying apart.  Schooling is one of the ways of getting an education.  But schooling - being one way - has its problems, in its role in continued colonialism and the violence and oppression inherent in compulsory standardised schooling.

In exploring unschooling as decolonisation, I will touch on deschooling and adutlism/childism and then focus on the ways unschooling can be a tool towards decolonisation.
