Summer Blogging

I need recommendations! I am teaching grades 4-9 summer blogging - a one week crash course. Kids are likely to continue
blogging after the course ends. They are social creatures.
I would like you to suggest opensource, zero download, safe tools for this
bunch. I'm thinking I would like to set these up with safe email, too.
You're the educators, you tell me!

First blog post in Ning

After numerous tries from my home network I joined Ning first go from school. It must be a firewall or something to do with the wireless connection at home. The trick will be now to be able to put in my username and password from home and see if it will let me though.

How do we get there from here?

This is my favorite Web resource for global learning: TakingITGlobal.

The Executive Director of the TakingITGlobal organization, Jennifer Corriero has said: “I wonder…if young people were actively engaged in all aspects of society, and thought of themselves as community leaders, problem-solvers, role models, mentors, and ‘key’ stakeholders…how would the world change?” Somewhat dumbfounded by the brilliance and beauty… Continue

Workshop Resources for NECC

Excuse multiple crossposts -

Julene Reed and I are teaching a workshop at NECC on global collaboration, and I've set up a series of resources to demonstrate

during this class. I hope that these resources will live on as people

become interested in sharing resources used to teach global awareness

concepts. Please consider jumping in and joining any of these groups.

Some of them are already seeded with material, but others are just

getting started. Feel… Continue

NECC

Many people in this online community is likely preparing to go to NECC. My supervisor and some colleagues have planed to go.

What sense is it in the conference? I am hesitate that...

Could someone tell me?

And whether someone were willing to launch a international project on the ICT-related?

Do we make a difference to the world?

It is fascinating how little change one can make in the lives of students! Despite over a month of exploring the Greenhouse Effect through experiments, creating animations, designing posters, participating in Earth Hour activities, watching 'An Inconvenient Truth', reading the EPA website, discussion and personal affirmations, the class can still leave the windows and doors open with the lights and airconditioner going when they leave the room.

What can we do to move this learning… Continue

I will have free math workbooks based on car prices to help motivate pre-Algebra students. They are about 100 pages and there are no advertisements in them. If you are…

MLC School Sydney Australia

Hi everyone,

I have just invited a bunch of very talented teachers from our school who have been chosen to explore possibilities around International citizenship and Global Awareness. There are at least two people from each of our three schools (Snr, Middle, Jnr) I have asked that they explain who they are and what they would like to explore in this area.

I would very much appreciate your respones to their thoughts. In the end we are looking to develop ongoing relationships… Continue

Opportunity for global perspective coming up

Howdy,

I was just pointed to the fact that a special moment is coming up:

02:03:04 05/06/07.

After 12:34:56 on 7.8.90 was during summer break, this is a great opportunity for an interesting class - especially on a global perspective:

- This particular moment happens 24 times.

- Who gets to celebrate it first?

- The Old European: "The American jumps the gun by about a month, celebrating on 06.05.07 rather than 05.06.07."

- The… Continue
